PLOT:

At the invitation of an estranged relative (her grandfather) , a young woman travels with her niece and nephew to a castle in Europe for Christmas, where she unwittingly falls for a dashing Prince.

In "A Princess for Christmas," McGrath plays Jules Daly, a frenetic twenty-something who becomes guardian to her young niece Maddie (De Meza) and nephew Milo (Turner) when her sister and brother-in-law are tragically killed in an accident. While balancing the daily hysteria of becoming an overnight parent, Jules was recently laid off at work, her car is on the fritz, and the kids' shenanigans have caused a dozen nannies to flee like vampires before garlic. When an ominous knock on the door comes late one evening, Jules wonders, what now? At the door is Paisley Winterbottom (Miles Richardson, "Midsomer Murders"), a proper English butler, with a most curious invitation: a Christmas holiday with grandfather, Edward (Moore), the Duke of Castlebury Hall, who was absent from the kids' lives, but wants to reconnect out of love for his late son. Jules initially wants to decline the trip, though she and the kids eventually travel to Castlebury to meet the Duke. On more than one occasion, Jules feels woefully common trying to blend in with her late brother-in-law's ostentatious family. Eventually, however, even with missteps and mistakes, a mystical influence begins to fall over the family, like the comfort of a dusting of snow over the quiet countryside. This Christmas, the family won't lament what has been lost, but will celebrate all that has been found!

"A Princess for Christmas" is a Motion Picture Corporation of America Production. Brad Krevoy, Francisco J. Gonzolez and Reuben Liber are executive producers. Michael Damian and Janeen Damian are producers as well as script co-writers. Michael Damian also directed.

PLOT:

Released by CBS:

Beyond the Blackboard, a "Hallmark Hall of Fame" presentation starring Emily VanCamp ("Brothers & Sisters," "Everwood"), will broadcast on the CBS Television Network.

Inspired by a true story, this movie is about a 24-year-old first-time teacher who overcomes her initial fears and prejudices and makes a difference in the lives of the homeless children she teaches in a shelter's makeshift classroom.

Stacey Bess (Emily VanCamp), a young wife and mother of two in Salt Lake City who long dreamed of becoming a teacher, sets out to obtain her first teaching position after graduating from college at the end of 1987. With the school year already underway and her teaching options limited, she soon finds herself accepting a job at "a school with no name," where she is expected to teach homeless children from grades one through six in the same classroom. Despite concerns about the challenges of teaching students of various grade levels at the same time, Stacey is excited by the opportunity and earnestly prepares for her first day; however, her dream morphs into a nightmare when Stacey arrives at the shelter and finds that the "classroom" is a filthy shed with a few tattered books, one desk, several old mismatched chairs and a resident rat. The undernourished, unkempt and unruly children and their struggling, disillusioned and occasionally disrespectful parents are also worlds away from her teaching dreams.

Stacey fights off her tears and discomfort and, with her husband's support, decides to become an advocate as well as a teacher. She starts by cleaning, painting and decorating the "classroom" with the help of an eager student, Maria, and Nelson, a kind and artistic 65-year-old homeless man from the shelter whom Stacey enlists as a teacher's aid and art teacher. She also finds an ally in the school district's empathetic superintendent, who helps her get the desks and books that her students need and even donates his own family's piano. In their refurbished classroom, Stacey encourages the students to share personal stories, which is often a healing experience for them. Reacting to Stacey's obvious interest and care for them, the students start to blossom, demonstrating a thirst to learn and the ability to thrive in the classroom. Their parents react with appreciation and pride at their children's newfound knowledge and skills; however, setbacks and emotionally taxing moments are always around the corner, such as when children who are progressing so impressively are suddenly pulled from the school after their parents choose, or are forced, to leave the shelter. Stacey begins to realize that her time with these transient children is as important to her as it is to them and soon she can't picture herself teaching anywhere else.

Beyond the Blackboard is a Hallmark Hall of Fame production. Brent Shields ("The Courageous Heart of Irena Sendler") and Gerald R. Molen ("Schindler's List") are executive producers; Jeff Bleckner ("Loving Leah") is the director. Camille Thomasson ("When Love Is Not Enough: The Lois Wilson Story") wrote the script based on the book Nobody Don't Love Nobody by Stacey Bess.

Movie Review:

In the beginning we are introduced to a little girl, whose name is Stacey Bess. She loves school because it is a safe place. At home, her parents fight all the time. Stacey has to leave high school at the age of 16, due to her expecting a baby. She marries and has two children – a boy and girl, during this time she earns her GED and a College Degree and pursues her dream of teaching.... which leads her to teaching a large group of homeless children, who range in all sorts of various ages.

The Children in the movie are the best part of the story- it is precious to see how Stacey’s teaching and care of the children makes them thrive and yearn to learn. There are problems and troublemakers in the beginning, of course, but as they all adapt – they all learn to trust and love one another. Stacey’s children at school are just as cute and adorable as her own children... a young girl and boy. It seems throughout the story that Stacey gets home very late after dark and her husband is always there caring for the children, their home, cooking, washing dishes, etc... He also seems to be very sweet, patient, and understanding. Unless I missed it, it is never explained if he works or if he is a stay-at-home Father. My only qualm with the movie - I thought they made it look, at times, that Stacey was taking better care and more interested in the children at school, then her own. (Although, later on... after Stacey has her baby – she returns to work and decides to take the new baby with her.)

After the regular school period is over, Stacey and her husband, decide to do a Summer School Camp, without any pay, with the homeless children. Even though Stacey is expecting, she keeps on teaching the children who dearly love her. Her husband joins her with the camp and teaches the children sports and their own children come with them, too... and play with the other children.

Stacey does all she can do – to paint and clean up their school room, which is a complete mess. She buys all the painting supplies, plus school supplies, and snacks for the very hungry little children. When one of the homeless children’s father is thrown out of the homeless shelter, due to his drinking, Stacey asks the Father if she can take the young girl in, until he gets back on his feet.

It is truly a beautiful story about serving others. I was touched by the lives of these homeless children, who had nothing, but gave their love and little gifts to their teacher, in return for her teaching and loving them.

A Family Thanksgiving - Hallmark Channel

MOVIE REVIEW

A Family Thanksgiving

Network: Hallmark Channel

Original Air Date: November 6, 2010

CAST:

Daphne Zuniga ... Claudia
Faye Dunaway ... Gina
Dan Payne ... Bill
Gina Holden ... Jen
Kennedi Clements ... Amy
Nicolai Lawton-Glustra ... Jake

PLOT:

from Hallmark Channel:

A wealthy, successful corporate lawyer (Daphne Zuniga, "One Tree Hill") is living the high life in New York City with little time for anything except her lavish lifestyle until a close encounter with a bizarre mystic (Academy Award(R) Winner Faye Dunaway, "Network") drops her into an alternative reality to see what her life might have been like had she made different choices in "A Family Thanksgiving," a Hallmark Channel Original Movie. Hallmark Channel is the biggest holiday destination in television.

Thanksgiving is coming and Claudia, a self-absorbed, workaholic lawyer is being badgered by her sister Jen to come home for the holiday. After promising Jen she wouldn't miss Thanksgiving, Claudia is instead delighted when her boss appoints her to head up a team of lawyers in the firm's hostile takeover of another company. If Claudia wins the case, she'll be made partner. Giddy over the opportunity, Claudia then realizes the caveat: working the weekend means missing Thanksgiving. While Claudia isn't looking forward to facing Jen's disappointment, she convinces herself that while Thanksgiving is just a family holiday, being made partner is worth the sacrifice.

While preparing her case, Claudia has several accidental brushes with a mysterious woman Gina who repeatedly tries to make an appointment to discuss the lawyer's future. Annoyed, Claudia sidesteps the eccentric stranger long enough to escape to a waiting limousine, which to her surprise is chauffered by Gina. Gina wastes no time slamming on the brakes, causing Claudia to bump her head and fall unconscious. When Claudia awakes, she makes the horrifying discovery that her old life no longer exists. Her fast-paced existence gone, Claudia discovers she is a suburban housewife with two children. As she stumbles through this alternate existence, desperately trying to get her old life back, Claudia finds she is becoming strangely comfortable in the role of loving wife and mother. After making great strides to become a more genuine, caring person, Claudia falls deeply in love with her life, husband and children just as Gina arrives to take her back to her former reality. Now, Claudia finds herself at a crossroads where she must choose between being the woman she used to love or this new woman who is loved by so many others.

Movie Review:

I think this movie better suits an older audience only and truly should not be a movie for family viewing, in spite of the name being, A Family Thanksgiving.

This was one of those interesting movies where a successful business woman, Claudia, is placed into the life of being a Stay-at-Home Mother of two young children. She tells the children she's not their Mom, which freaks out the kids, at first, and might also confuse children who watch this movie, as well.

Claudia has to adjust into this new life of Motherhood and doesn't remember meeting or marrying her husband or having her children. Her sister is also a Stay at Home Mother and is helpful with advice.

Claudia asks her Sister, after giving a big party for her husband, if she thinks he expects (and I'm quoting...) "Birthday Sex". This comment would not be something I would expect in a family-friendly Hallmark Channel Movie. Then, later on... after Claudia has a date-night with her husband who she hardly knows - they have a racy "Melrose Place" type scene where Claudia and her husband come through the door, after their date, heavily kissing and begin almost ripping each other's clothes off as they make their way to the bedroom. I couldn't believe this was on Hallmark and titled "A Family Thanksgiving".

The Family does eventually, have a nice thanksgiving dinner, and Claudia realizes how much she was missing in her life before and figures out how she can possibly balance both lives.

It's an interesting movie, just not one for family viewing or young children!
